Scott M. Daniel
Candidate for Harnett County Commissioner District 3
ā
About Me...
I'm a happily and luckily married 7th generation Harnett County citizen who has raised three children to adulthood here. Since 2000, I have worked for the state of NC with the Division of Employment and Independence for Persons with Disabilities. I have a servant's heart, and I feel that now is the time for me to serve our county......specifically our shared district 3. I believe that my familiarity with contracts and budgets in addition to my interest in listening to my neighbors and bettering our communities more than qualifies me to represent you on the Board of Commissioners. And, I want to know what YOU think Harnett County needs to be our best!
Our District's Schools
ā
āWith an average of less than $1,000 supporting each Harnett County student each academic year coupled with some of the very lowest wages paid to both teachers and staff, our teachers and students MUST be better supported. Despite my the current commissioner's current dual role as Interim Superintendent of Harnett County Schools, Buies Creek Elementary earned a 60% C up from a 53% D last year, and Coats Elementary held a steady D. Of most concern is that Coats-Erwin Middle again this year earned a score of F. Perhaps it's time for someone not so connected (or so double-booked) to make some positive strides toward the education of our future generations.
Growth in our county
My interest is in growing Harnett County responsibly......getting people to come here to play, to shop, and to even live (and work) here. But, at the current growth (like kudzu), our classroom sizes will continue to balloon, access to healthcare will get even more limited than it already is, and our roads/community services/infrastructure will continue to also suffer.
